First we have Armada Starscream, now a TEAM of new minicons! Really, this is just cool…what is next? A new version of Armada Megatron? Sideswipe? Ehh…we’ve all seen the Toy Fair stuff…it’s movie figures for the future…yay…but let us not dread the future, but revel in the present!
We are going to break format here and start with the robot modes. First we have Runway here. I love his face sculpt. A nice scowl that reminds me of Prime Dreadwing and Skyquake. The arms, yes are small…and we have them massive legs. BUT this takes me back to Skystalker from the ROTF line, and that is a good thing.
Being a minicon, easy transformation. I do totally approve how the weapon becomes the jet engines. This is a nice jet mode, and it reminds me of the Alpha fighters from the third Robotech series…or for you hard core geeks, Genesis Climber Mospedia…wait…a transforming jet from Robotech? Does that mean it could…
YUP! We have a Gerwalk mode ladies and gents! Ok…one with tiny arms…but still! I mean this is from a minicon! All those Cyberverse figures they’ve engineered really has taught them a thing or two…
Next we have Heavytread. This guy is a bruiser. I LOVE his weapon, a glorious oversized cannon…
Also a great face sculpt. The monocle reminds me of the “cold face” Blitzwing has, so yeah, he’s got to be speaking with a German accent…he just has to…
Nice big ole chunky legs and the arms are on ball joints. Not a ton of articulation, but still, beats a Megazord any day…
Finally his alt mode is a tank (gee…”Heavytread”…didn’t see that coming…) and of the trio, this is easily my favorite. GREAT detailing, the cannon is again perfectly incorporated into the mode. While not the most dynamic robot, this mode is pure win.
Finally we have Windshear, and oddly this is my favorite of the robot modes. He just has…personality. Yes, spindly limbs and all…but great weapon, can be posed…
Also light enough to be left on a stand. If these guys were in a show, I could see him just buzzing around like a hyperactive mosquito.
Altmode…ok of the three this is the weakest. The gun is a bit over sized and the limbs just look like they are folded up…in fact if they just unfolded…hmmm…
Yup! We are Gerwalkin’ again! Funny thing is I like this better than the actual helicopter mode…go figure.
Finally we come to the coolest part of all this. They combine to a nice deluxe sized robot, the Centurion. Heavytread is the legs, Runway the body and Windshear the head. The combination is fluid, and doesn’t look forced. This is cooler than it should be!
The face is just perfect. A nice steely gaze on this soldier.
We have both balance AND articulation! Yeah, no waist, but hell this guy can move! I look at some other combiners from other series and this guy is far superior…I’m looking at you Build King…
Total side note…I know this guy works because it is three minicons…but if they could have pulled it off with two…we could have had the return of the Duocons…those guys get NO love…
Oh and if you want, you can break out the limbs from the robots for more places to hold guns…
Needless to say this guy totally sets a new standard for minicombiners…Sad thing is, this is probably the only one we would get. I’d love a whole slew of these guys…a few new molds…repaints even…and keeping the same format of legs, body and head. That way you could switch them around. Hell, that would be a GREAT filler line! The combiners would be like Albegas (go wiki it, it will make sense) or Kamen Rider OOOs…anyway, this pack gets my full recommendation. Great figures, great design…nothing is lost on the individual bots because of the combining gimmick…near flawless. Now…if they can use this kind of design for Deluxe figures…hmmm
