There comes a time when you look to the greats…the ones you like and respect…I’m talking about the “big fish” reviewers for me. I’m not mentioning names, because frankly I like them. I watch them just like you do (in fact if one of you readers happen to be one, thank you for what you do). The thing is, with this figure…oh just go watch my first Rant of the year. Alright, hope you hit the like button…ANYWAY…enough, let’s talk about this figure!
This is one freaking sinister looking figure! I mean just look at that grin! The teeth were painted perfectly, as are the crazed eyes. This uses the same body as the Hobgoblin, which does make sense considering Hobby was a copycat in the comics. The scaled “skin” is a brilliant green and and the uniform is purple, all painted perfectly on mine. He only has one set of hands, but they are universal for just about all. I mean he really didn’t get into fist fights with Spiderman, but I wouldn’t have minded a pointing finger as a blaster.
Accessories include the satchel which has some nice painted buckles. Again the same as Hobgoblin, but hey Hobby stole it from him. It can be worn on either side, but is really cast to be strung to rest on his right hand side.
While we have seen this pumpkin bomb now a fourth time, this is the best painted one. The others were just cast translucent plastic. This one almost looks like it is glowing. Hasbro, if you EVER make some kind of generic weapons pack (my Falcon needs guns) toss in a few more of these if you could. This can be wedged into his hand fairly tight. I also would have liked the razor bats he tossed, but I guess I could always steal a batarang.
Finally we have the Goblin Glider. Oh man, THIS is nice. Here is a quick picture of Hobgoblin, I know I never got to do a formal photoshoot…
See, if you followed me on Twitter or Instagram you would have seen that lol. But anyway, that glider is MUCH smaller, so this is a nice upgrade.
Bringing it all together al I can say is oh hell yes…trying to balance it on a Tamashii stage, well…more like just oh hell…and this is where my gripes kick in. The glider, both in Green and Hob, SHOULD have had some kind of stand port in the base, much like Pizza Spidey has. Also it is a bit too squishy. I mentioned I would have liked another hand or weapon, but mostly I really would have liked an unmasked head. Hobgoblin came with a Demogoblin head which was pretty sweet AND he has a cape. So a much higher parts count. Here, this is all we get. Perhaps if Green Goblin was released first I wouldn’t feel so slighted.
Still though as a figure this is solid. I am wanting more, but with what I have I am more than pleased. Even if you aren’t going for the Sandman BAF, I STRONGLY recommend getting Green Goblin. This is an essential Spidey villain after all. Despite my gripes I give him an A.
