Hey all! Been ages I know, but real life has been kicking in. So let’s take a look at what we have here…We get a new version of our favorite communications guy Blaster! Now The last one we had was back in Fall of Cybertron days, and while I do have him, totally stayed MISB, and probably will because…well…it was crap. So now Hasbro gets a re-do, so let’s see how he rolls!
Roll? Did I say roll? Man, wrong word because a) he’s a bluetooth boom box…and b) he totally ROCKS!! Seriously, just look at this wonderful update to the G1…and I have been saying that a ton with these figures. I mean of course the colors are there, but just the over all presentation is stellar.
and yes, the chest DOES open! For some reason my G1 doesn’t even do that. Inside is a neat little cartridge.
It is hard to make out, even in good light, but the little cartridge is basically the remote for the boom box. It also is conveniently the same size as Rewind’s alt mode…hmmm…I wonder…
Now on the other side of the remote there is storage for the Titan Master. I have no idea WHY Blaster is now one mind you…I really need to read the comics I think.
Now Blaster is a leader class figure…with this we actually get a TRIPLE changer! These guys become bases! Again, no idea just WHY but does add some fun play value.
This reminds me of the old Micromaster bases. Pretty neat and rumor is can hook up with Fort Max, much like the old Scramble City base modes would attach to Metroplex. Blaster and Prime have this mode, and it is rather neat. Do I ever plan on using this mode ever again? Not really…
Blaster’s Titan Master, Twincast, is really well sculpted I have to say. The paint on the face is a nice touch..but man would I have loved a bit more. He actually looks like a little Blaster, complete with speakers on the legs and a sculpted chest. These details are lost through in the plastic. I’m sure the Takara one will be nicer, but just a *little* more love Hasbro? C’mon…
In head mode he looks like…actually I have no idea who this is. Really no clue. For some reason reminds me of Rhinox, but aside from that, no G1 identity…sooo…
Flip the helmet up and hot damn we got Blaster people! This is PERFECT!!!
Blaster’s bot mode look dead on for the G1…in some ways a bit too dead on but I’ll get into that. At a glance he just looks fantastic. From the iconic speaker legs, to the big orange chest with the Autobrand. I don’t even want to break out the panel liner. Even the gun is about 90% there.
Now what could I mean by too g1? Well he is still a bit of a brick. Despite having knees, he really can’t do much with them. No waist either. So if wanting a dynamic posing figure, alas Blaster is not for you.
Though not the most articulate figure, I can say he passes the one leg check with flying colors! You have to give points for that.
Also the chest DOES open!
And good ole rewind fits right inside him (I want to make a joke about Chromedome being envious…but that would be wrong)
Plus the duo look great together. This is the big thing though, for a display set, these guys are all going to be a must have. Not just Blaster and company, but also Soundwave will be the remold. So I hate to say it, but you will probably be buying another set of robots, cats and birds and a Leader figure…and hate it all until you do the display.
So all in all, I really do recommend Blaster. He hits the nail on the head from coloring, construction, transformation. Articulation IS lacking, but again for the final display he will look awesome. Blaster here scores a solid A.
