There is an interesting thing with Marvel Legends…we get a TON of Ironmen, Captain Americas and Spidermen…Iron Man figures we can almost justify because of all the variants. Captain America alas pains me to buy each time because they are pretty much the EXACT SAME figure, but blast it I need to complete that Build a Figure…Spiderman though, he gets the most redesigns it seems, and this is the latest. Based on the Ultimate series when Parker is about 14, this is a totally new body type. So let us see how it rates!
Man where to start on this guy…again I Hasbro shows the love. I have zero complaints on the suit, all is painted quite nice. I love the big eyed mask. That has always ben iconic for me to be honest. By big I mean take up about 2/3 of the face big lol. This is one of my favorite looks for Spidey, so I am a bit biased.
Now Ultimate Peter Parker is about 14-16 years old…so he is a bit on the shorter side to the modern day. Needless to say so is the figure. The thing is this one’s bod proportions are a lot tighter. Pizza Spidey is a fantastic figure, one you need, I assure you. The thing is that one is a bit on the lanky side. Seriously, it is like Peter Chung designed him…(hmmm note to self, would totally watch a Peter Chung animated Spiderman). Side by side, the new body just looks like a real body type.
Accessorywise, we get this great youthful Peter Parker head. This has that…well…fun I think Spiderman has been missing. Plus he his well painted, and a really well defined face.
Aside from the fists we also get these GREAT wall crawling hands! Ok, yes, just a trick shot…but…
Zooming in you can see the fingers are actually FLATTENEND as if supporting his weight. See, I love details like these. This is how Hasbro is really stepping up their game.
Of course this has the needed “thwipping” hands. It should be noted that the pegs are really tight when switching hands. Also the articulation and balance are top notch. Despite not having the butterfly shoulder joints he hits some great Spidey poses. I totally and shamelessly ripped this pose off from TMan978’s review of Miles Morales who shares the same body.
Of course he looks fantastic web slinging around as well. I did like the peg hole in the previous Spider mold, but still, this is more than serviceable.
As I stated before about Captain America figures, they always pain me to buy because they are all pretty much the Stealth Suit version with that one exception that really sucked…but with Spiderman they not only keep reinventing the wheel, but improving it! This and the Miles are must buys…especially since the Space Venom Build a Figure seems more on the lack luster, I can see skipping one or two on this wave. This guy though gets the A+ all the way. Huh…two in a row, Hasbro really is doing well.
