It’s Morphin’ Time!! Yes we are TOTALLY deviating from the usual line of of robots and imports to something that totally hit me from left field! Bandai of America has a new Legacy line…and while I have the full roster in Figuart form (despite reviewing only the Yellow Ranger) I had to see how the Green guy held up. Sorry, I’m a SUCKER for the 6th Ranger/Sentai character. So let us use the Dragon Dagger and summon us a review! (god that segue sucked…)
So let us take a look at the Green Warrior. Umm…ok, he’s just pretty awesome. The details are all there, from the notches in the chest plate, the dragon coin in the belt…hell the gold bands are SCULPTED on, not just painted. If you look at the helmet you can even make out the dragon teeth, again hard sculpted on. VERY impressive. Even the joints are the properly colored plastic. Marvel Legends still have issues with that. He comes with both this Dragon Dagger, with holster, AND the Sword of Darkness as well as a second set of holding hands. Really a very nice assortment.
There was some love put into the making of the sword…well save the material. It is GUMMY. Still if the takes a nose dive off the top shelf you don’t have to worry about a brittle blade. Now I do kind of wish it had a tassel on the end like the show, but really that is nit picking.
Now let us talk about articulation. This is something of a true feat because he has all you need. Double jointed elbows and knees, ball jointed head that can look up and down no issue, boot cuts, thigh swivels, limited, but realistic waist swivel…and even ankle pivots! Oh and Figuart style wrists…can’t forget that…nope…so this leaves wanting for nothing in design.
With that is the problem. The design is there. The cosmetics are dead on…but the execution is where the failing is. I so wanted to give him the one legged test, but no kept failing. Why? The ankle would not support him. Then in hit me. ALL the joints are just about a millimeter off too loose. If you follow me on twitter I mentioned that. If you don’t…WHY NOT? @truStarscreamer man! Anyway…everything is off in a way that he really can’t hold the crazy dynamic poses that he SHOULD. That is a killer.
Also off? The Dragon Dagger hands. Yeah, again just a smidge, but it is enough. I am going to hit the joints with floor polish later this week, and may run some clear nail polish in his dragon dagger hands to see if that helps. Will post the results on twitter. It is a shame because he can get those nice natural poses.
So here is the deal…If you don’t want to spend $45 + on an import Green Ranger, this will be the best you will ever find. For $20 he is pretty damn well done. He stands at about 6.5 inches, so alas will not scale well with Marvel Legends, but maybe with some Arkham Knight sized figures or NECA. The joints are a real killer I have to say for me though. So far they are doing the first team of Rangers and Ninja Storm and the other figures will come with Build a Figure Zord parts. Honestly I would have been happy with the proper weapons for a power blaster, because the first team are just coming with dinoblasters. Meh.
If they continue this line I think I’ll just collect the 6th Rangers. White Tiger Zord one and hopefully the Gold Zeo. At 6.5 inches tall they do make fantastic display pieces, and for $20, you can be that guy who brings his toys to work for his desk. So despite the flaws, I still give this a solid A for the Green Ranger.
