Keeping with the new figures, we are looking at another deluxe, Titan’s Return Skullcruncher!! Wait…wait…smasher? Huh, must have lost a trademark…oh well…For those not in the know (crap, I think I just offended my second to last reader…thanks for sticking with me buddy) Skully here is one of the original Decepticon Headmasters. So this is a great to see him again! Well that and Fans Project just did him so I think Hasbro/Takara are kind of gunning for the third parties…Anyway, let’s tear into this guy and see if he holds up with the others in the line!
Going back to basics and starting in alt mode. I LOVE this gator mode!!! Look at that face! The eyes are brilliant and the teeth are all rubbery in that working mouth!
The head is on a ball joint so you can move it all around. The tail on a pivot so you have a bit of motion to your posing. The legs..well..umm…ok they leave a lot to be desired. But I was having too much fun with the gator head to be honest. Plus look inside that mouth! The texturing on the interior…serious love here.
Of course being a headmaster…err…Titanmaster, he has a place for his pilot Grax. I have no idea how this works to be honest…how do you pilot a freaking GATOR? Still, the panel he hides under is actually soft rubbery plastic. I honestly do not know how well that will do in years to come, but gives a slight organic feel to it all.
I have no issues with the looks of robot mode. The face looks great with the gold, the body colors are dead on. Really is just a nice updated version of the G1 with the exception of the tail sword.
The tail works as the little area titanmaster can be a gunner…in bot mode, meh.
I do have to mention that Grax here has to be the plainest of the Titanmasters. Not his fault, but could have had just a TOUCH more color….
I actually like to leave the pistol in the tail as larger rifle myself. Kind of lowers the part count, but looks much cooler. As you can see articulation is great, but I do have to say the joints were looooooose. I am having to give Skullsmasher a nice dose of the floor polish treatment.
Also the peg hole is there! Yay!
In the end I have to give Skullsmasher a full recommendation. Not as good as Scourge, but not a bad figure by far. Took a neat silly G1 guy and really gave him a solid update. Shame about the joints though and alt mode…well the legs could have had a bit more articulation, hell SOME articulation lol. I give Skullsmasher a solid B+ and worth your $15.
