Ahh back to the the Dinos! I have been having fun with this group, giving Victory some much needed love. Hitting “Shi” this is number 4 of the team…and the way things are going I’ll give you guys number 1 last before the combined…ok, hopefully no, but we’ll see how the the back log treats me lol.
Starting with Beast mode, we have a…ummm…a…ok, I have zero idea what the hell this is. Some kind of winged lizard? While yes this was a pretender dinosaur, I really have no words for this…once again considering the source material Fansproject still did what they could, though even this guy makes me wonder. While the wings look cool, I almost wish they had hinges to wrap around his body like Transmetal Cheetor. Would just have offered some kind of playability I think.
Still, this of all the ones I’ve reviewed has to be the weakest beast mode by far. The head has no articulation aside from the jaw. The feet aren’t on ball joints…ok, this guy isn’t much fun. Still the plastic is solid as is on par with Fans Project and the coloring is quite nice.
Now robot mode…ok visually he’s kind of cool looking. The green is a nice change, though does break the solidarity of the team. The face is well defined and he has these piercing blue eyes. I do like how the wings are positioned on the shoulders so they do not hinder articulation. Finally he holds his gun like a champ, though the stock does get in the way if you fold up the forearm.
You notice I have him leaning forward. The reason is that the monster head kind of blocks his face if he is perfectly up right. If in only folded in just a bit more or had more of a groove for it to go into. No wrist swivels by the way or real ankle rockers. Hence not really much dynamic posing.
Compared to Ni, Shi is a bit smaller. I find that interesting because he is also an arm, so I thought the two would share their dimensions. I do have to give Fansproject credit by not just cloning the two, BUT Ni is the superior of the two.
Actually when breaking out the entire team, well I have to say this is the weakest. Sorry, just he doesn’t have the fun the other guys do (Just trust me with Ichi for now). If these guys were on a show, he’d be the one guy in the back with maybe two lines the entire season, and one would be just “yeah!”
So here is the deal, it’s a combiner team, so you really have to “catch em all.” You can’t skip him if you want the big guy, plain and simple. As an individual toy, he is mediocre, especially for the cost. Still, it is the final combination we buy most of these teams for. That doesn’t mean I can’t complain though, so Shi here gets just a C as an individual toy.
