Welcome back to another riveting review! We are back with some Transformers third party with Dinosan, the third entry in Fanproject’s version of the Dinoforce, Saurus Ryuo-Dinsan! (Wait, did he say third? We only have one review…) Dinoni really impressed me as you know, and while yes not officially reviewed…Dino-Ichi is also a badass figure. Really…one day I’ll get to it…so, let’s get this bad boy going!
Dino-san is a stocky boy I have to say. He also…well…wears his kibble all over. The legs are just on his legs. No real attempt to hid them, same with the beast mode head on his back. Again though much like Dinoni, when compared to the source material (thank you TFU.info) Fansproject really didn’t have much to go on here. Still this guy is a bruiser. Not the type to take center stage, but when called upon will jump into the thick of a brawl. I really like the color palate though the original was just black and white. The blue gives some much needed character. The face…well…ok I’d have liked a bit of a defined face plate instead of just a blank spot.
I will say, he does sport decent articulation. Still a third party had better for what they charge most of the time. The legs allow some nice dynamics and allow to him to do more than stand there with his buddies.
Now San comes with his rifle, BUT he can also use Dinoichi’s artillery! VERY neat dynamic I have to say. These are also the hands and feet for the combined mode and just the fact that they are not restricted to the leader figure is a cool idea. Perhaps he is like Samwise and just wants to share the load…
One last fun thing, with a partial transformation you can fold in the hands and bring out the beast claws. Berserker claws baby! I would LOVE to see this in some form of media, just diving in, claws out like a badger going nuts taking out the fodder.
Now let’s take a look at the altmode! This beastie is a…a…ummm…err…an ardvark? Mole? I have no clue just what the hell this is…but it be ugly…Still, once again, considering the source material, they did the best they could! Now I do like the light piping in this mode and he stands rather stable. Oh and you can peg his gun in one of the ports on top if you like. It’s more weapon storage than the other guys have offered at least.
Now this is not the most agile beast I have to say. Now still better than anything Hasbro/Takara has offered, but nothing like MMC’s for example. He can’t really get into a stalking pose, but he can rear up on his hind legs pretty well. The head has zero neck movement, and one interesting design aspect is that instead of the jaw opening, the head moves instead up and down. Unique I have to say.
Though again looks great with his team mate. I really wish there was an official way for these two to pair up. Would be a neat gimmick to be honest, and a nice alternative for displaying the team.
As a stand alone figure I can’t really recommend this guy, BUT if collecting the team (and really, who just gets one guy from a combiner group?) Dinosan keeps the momentum going. The fact of being able to use Dinoichi’s weapons adds some fun play value. The QC is right on par with Fanproject’s standards with nice solid plastic and tight joints. I am happy to be staying on this project. The fourth member is already on his way to me, so will attempt to keep the reviews on these guys going. I have to give San here a nice solid A. It is a shame that with all the Dinobots, Devestators, Predakings and such flooding the market that a team like this is getting swept under the radar. You know, when combined, I bet he will be in a nice scale with MP Starsaber.
