Oh wow…been a looong time since I did a Transformer review…hope I remember the format lol. Anyway we are looking at today a figure I have been waiting for since I was 5 years old, the title character from Enter, The Nightbird! I have been wanting this more of this robotic ninja, and was REALLY let down she never EVER appeared (save for a slight cameo in a Dreamwave comic) again! I mean she is a Decepticon Robot NINJA, how could you not want more? So let us see if it was worth the wait…
It has been a looooong time since I have imported a transformer figure, so I haven’t gotten my hands on their current packaging. For a deluxe figure, the box is modest in size. Also it is collector friendly. We have a window so it shows off the figure in alt mode as well as the accessories.
You get a great picture of the robot mode and box art on the sides, with the back of the box showing modes, cartoon style art, and…well…other stuff in Japanese.
Let’s talk alt mode! Nightbird Shadow is a retool of Arcee. For the main breakdown you can go back here. We are going to talk about the changes. First the colors look fantastic on this chassis. It has a fantastic sleek evil car look. The only thing I really would have changed would have been loosing the spoiler. Just would have made it THAT much more sleek, but no major complaints otherwise.
The car mode looks pretty sweet with the weapons attached as well. The yellow plastic works well with the black and silver, nothing getting lost. I was surprised the guns were a just a flat black. I was expecting a touch of silver or something. I mean Arcee’s HASBRO gun was two toned.
Finally we get Nightbird’s exclusive Sais. These also look pretty damn cool, and the kid in me says since they are energy weapons, they can shoot beams as well! So they work on the car.
Transformed…oh my gods yes she looks FANTASTIC!!! Short of the backpack, this is almost dead on the animation model. That version couldn’t transform, so the extra kibble is forgiven. Again the colors look great, but the details are what makes me fall in love with this girl. The lines on the body, the freaking AMAZING head sculpt, with some epic light piping mind you, and the colors, I’ll say mid review worth owning for this mode alone. Plus if you are a purist, I’m sure you could remove the kibble backpack then.
She looks great in action poses, but man if she only had a waist swivel…but based on the transformation it wouldn’t work. Still I am NOT complaining! I mean they even have the energy shuriken things on her mid section.
One thing I didn’t touch on with the Arcee review was the fact she had a peg hole for a Tamashii stand in the car parts. So this mold can Rider Kick with the best of them.
You can deck her out in all her weapons of course, but I think this looks a little cluttered for such an awesome figure. Also surprisingly she shares one of my biggest complaints with Arcee. Her hands have these little tabs that don’t allow the weapons to slide all the way in. I took a small blade, heated to carve them out on Arcee, and may do the same to Nightbird.
Still, lose the swords, flip the sais for the wrist mounts…I may put down the knife…
Bottom line, you want a Deception Fembot? Buy her. G1 fan, wanting all the characters? Buy her (and hope you get an Autobot Spke and Devcon one day). Ninja fan? Cool robot fan? Yeah you get the gist…There is little to zero chance Nightbird is going to be made by Hasbro, unless some convention exclusive, which will have an even crazier after market price…so it is well worth the extra expense for being an import. Nightbird here gets the full A+!
