Gah that is a mouthful to say…But it is very cool! First name translation! Saurus (as in Dino of course) Ryu-Oh…or Dragon King! Yeah this is a badass name for the new combiner from Fansproject! As for Dinoni, Dino again then Ni…as in 2 in Japanese. Clever naming Fansproject indeed! So with this new combiner, it is the third party take on the Dino Force from Transformers Victory, specifically Yokuryu…who is a recolor and literal re-shell of the pretender Wildfly from the Monstructor…yeah it gets complicated for toys…but I digress…ON WITH THE REVIEW!!!
Starting with Robot mode this series and I really like how it turned out. I love the color palate, nice cool blues and greys with just a touch of red and yellow. He wears his beast mod kibble in just the right way. Not being obtrusive, and showing the highlights of the alt mode.
Articulation is pretty decent with the waist, bicep swivel, ball jointed neck, wrests and double jointed elbows. The wings can be unfolded for more dynamic poses as well. The knees aren’t the deepest bends, but they work well enough. With the wings deployed he does kind of remind me of the Predacon Divebomb, in the cool ways.
Dinoni has a nice portrait with deep lined details. Not too much personality, but still gives him some identity.
One of the few nit picks is one that I have with Fansproject in general…their hands are always too small! They can’t share their weapons nor use other figures with some very few exceptions.
He does come with his own blaster though that he holds fairly well, so it’s not like he is lacking arms.
Alt mode is…umm…well…some kind of bird. I don’t know…it works I guess, but then if you looked at the source material I had linked earlier, Fansproject really didn’t have much to go on.
This is the weakest of his forms, but again with what they had to work with I can forgive. This mode does remind me of Doubledealer’s bird mode though.
Now I did find a slightly different way to transform his lower half to give a bit more compact form . He still looks like a freaking killer robot chicken though…
Finally he has his third mode, being an arm. It’s nice and compact I have to say.
I do have to say all the robot parts are hidden in the arm mode and the joints are very tight and secure. I really look forward to getting the full bot to see how the total package hold together.
So we have a pretty rocking robot mode, alt mode of ok variety…and a solid limb. Oh and speaking of solid, the plastic quality is fantastic! Not that Fansproject is known for cheaping out often on their plastic…(ok the Stunticons could have been better…). Now speaking of Cheap…this is my biggest issue. This guy was pricey! I’m talking $69 bucks! Plus he is not exactly a large figure, just about the same size as a combiner wars limb bot. Still I do plan on seeing this team all the way through and I don’t think they will let me down. If you can get a good deal on him, pick him up. I have to give a B just for the price…if $15 buck cheaper yeah he’d be an A…
