Ok I bought into the hype on this guy. Mostly because the “Game Stop Exclusive” tags, my brain hears “rare, buy it, you’ll never see it again in North Carolina!” So again I get a DC figure. Now I also did play Batmobile Arkham Knight…err…Batman Arkham Knight I mean…anyway that is a different discussion, let’s talk toys!
When I first took him out of the plastic I have to say I was pretty blown away. I thought that being the Game Stop figure they would kind of cheap out on him, and I was proven wrong. This guy is solid! No cheap plastic on him. Then there is the detailing…This guy and Deathstroke are my only DC figures, but both exceeded all expectations. The paint aps on the belts, the shin guards and the ammo clips are insane! This guy by the way was $25, about $6 more than a Marvel Legend and he is on a totally different level. Hasbro, I’m sorry either step up your game or drop the price, DC Direct shows it can be done. Oh and if you look at the picture, the joints are all painted the proper colors, not to mention the cuts for the swivels are on the folds of the clothes! This masks these points fantastically!
The back isn’t neglected either, I love the tear and bad stitchings in the jacket. Oh and the badly stenciled upside down bat symbols are just the best touch to the character. Please look again at the joints on Red Hood’s jacket. The white parts of the jacket have painted ends of the joints, yet the other side is black…so just a dab of paint was all that was needed. Seriously Hasbro, this CAN be done!
Accessory count would be the two pistols. Two lovely gunmetal highly sculpted pistols with again, stenciled bat symbols. The hands hold them perfectly, not too tight, not too loose. I don’t need much if it’s done proper.
I only have one major grip with the Red Hood, and that frankly is his hood. This hinders the head’s articulation big time. Well at least to access the head. I have seen some people just cut it off, but man that does kill the charm. It’s a shame because the helmet has some neat sculpting on it.
The rest of the articulation is pretty spot on. Double knee and elbow joints, ab swivel, which while restricted by the jacket, doesn’t make him look like half his torso is going ways nature never intended. Plus that jacket looks so damn awesome I can’t justify complaining about it. I also love the non buckled sleeves, they just are just that perfect sloppyness of someone who doesn’t care.
Yeah I’m loving this guy. The few faults are nit picky, and the awesomeness is abundant. The only other thing to know is like Deathstroke, he is in 7” scale. So no dream match with your Legends, but perhaps with your Diamond Selects. Still I have zero regrets and if you are at a Game Stop and see this guy, pick him up. The secondary market I have a feeling will be a killer. A+
