Oh I had not planned on getting this…but fate had other things in store for me and now we get to look at Bandai’s rendition of the first Avenger!
Ok, first and foremost, let us look at the man. When I think Figuarts I’ll admit, making figures based on real people rarely comes to mind. Armored guys? Fictional faces? Yup..but man they got a GREAT Chris Evans likeness! Oh and the suit? Man oh man, I love the shoulder straps and buckles, the armor plates…yeah Bandai nailed it!
Cap also has an alt head with a shouting face. Umm…yeah…not really sure this I’m a fan of…
Also for the heads we have two other eye inserts. One looking left, the other right. Nice for subtle poses, but not sure if needed. I think this was an answer to FIGMA’s adjustable eyes.
Being Captain America, we have to talk about the shield! He comes with all kinds of adapters for him to hold it in various ways. One that is interesting is the the clear brace and the peg in the chopping/saluting hand. This gives a great stable grip for a pre-throwing pose.
Also there is an adaptor so the shield can peg on to a stand for mid air throws.
This same adaptor allows the shield to plug into his back, but be careful the cover for the plug hole is insanely tiny. Still this is very cool.
One really nice touch is that with the hands, there are both a left and right hand with shield grips built into them so you just plug the shield on the hand! Also there is a brace for the forearm. Now he holds it steady! Articulation is right on there with Figuarts standards, though had trouble just finding a natural pose for him.
What killed me with this figure though…after handling him, I just couldn’t enjoy my Marvel Legends Captain anymore! If you recall I REALLY liked that figure as well! I hate to say it, but once you handle the Bandai one, the Marvel Legends are outclassed…but then they cost half as much.
Aside from the cost of being an import, there are no real down sides to this figure. Oh I could nitpick…I’d love a stand plug in his back like Ultra Act figures or even an effect for throwing the shield (ok I’ll take effects any and all the time), but that is me being a jerk. Bandai did a fantastic job on this figure and I rate A+
