Way back on one of the Podcasts (wait, we need to do another one eventually…) me and Figure Fan were kind of making fun of this figure. We called him Cosplay Megatron on account it was essentially Armada’s head on a remold Megatron…Plus the promotional pictures looked ugly. Well then I saw him in person, and let me tell you he looks a LOT better! So I cracked…and well…just read on…
Starting in alt mod, we have a damn good tank! Honestly not since Leader Brawl have I had such a good tank at this scale, I mean Bludgeon was close, but this guy is great! I mean look at the detail, from the reactive armor, to actual working rubber treads! Also the turret does rotate, but the barrel doesn’t raise or lower.
This is not an H tank either, plus almost zero kibble! I mean just a face on the under side, aside from that, it’s a tank!
Now this is Armada Megatron, so I had to break out the Minicons. The ports are just static, but still brings back the memories. Color me impressed…oh and speaking of coloring, that green is just perfect with the gun metals and dark accents. Zero complaints on the cosmetics here.
Transformation is pretty rocking I have to say, and gives us a robot of stature and who commands respect. I mean seriously, this is a Megatron full and full. Armed with a big ole cannon and an additional beam rifle. Now I have a slight alternate transformation with the treads on his back to invoke a fuller look, much like Armada had.
The coloring…oh damn…with more silver, touches of purple and red…Hasbro has given us a perfect love letter to Armada Megs. The entire head sculpt is perfect. Aside from the Antlers of Destruction, the face shows the stern emotion, and I can totally hear David Kaye’s voice.
PLUS EPIC LIGHT PIPING!!!
The rifle can separate to two separate hand guns. These are ok. I think I may be giving them to another decepticon that uses purple weapons though…
Since I’ll take his dagger instead! Using Dragstrip’s dagger invokes the hand blade Armada Megs had. Really works and hits that nostalgia nail on the head.
Articulation is decent. Don’t expect the three point Ironman landing, but he can show off a battle stance/disco dancing pose.
Plus passes the one leg standing test!
My one concern with the mold are the arms. There is a lot of stress put on these pegs, and they seem to hold up, but still I would still be a bit ginger with them.
Now the cannon is reversible. You can get the more fusion style cannon when flipped around, but Armada used the tank turret. Now a fun thing you can do for pure display purposes is give the gun a flip, rotate the forearm…
And he is firing from the hip! All I need is a voice chip saying “The Power is Mine!” and I’m back to the 2000’s! Seriously, between Armada Starscream and this guy, Hasbro is showing us some serious love.
I take back a lot of the bad things I said about this deco. Right now between him and the G1 version, G1 is flying of the shelves a bit faster. Don’t pass on this guy though, you are doing a disservice to yourself. Straight up solid A
