The Combiner Wars are here and they are full scale battles people. I’ve gone over both a jet and a car, so let’s go into the body of these guys…and start out with the king bully Motormaster! This was also done as Prime, and to cut to the chase, pass on that figure. This was the original intent and it is done SO much better! Read on!
I’ve always loved the concept of Motormaster, the evil truck. Prime’s Rival on the road…and here it shows more than ever. Alas the full truck mode is gone, but still as a truck cab I am NOT let down. The colors are fantastic, predominantly silver plastic with purple highlights and the gold head lights and silver grill. Not much pain, but what is there is done right.
Compared to some other truck we got that was RUMORED to have been Motormaster…well they can hang together pretty well…he is sized perfectly and nothing glaring or tacky.
Despite the lack of trailer, I have zero issues with how they have done Motormaster. I mean in all honesty, making him just a cab also helps keep him in decent scale as well…plus I’m SURE some 3rd party will make something for him…
Then we have the bot mode…oh mamma…this wonderful homage to the G1 days…from head to toe I love this figure. Sure no truck cab for feet, but the colors are there! Texturing on the legs and torso make him just look so damn tough. Finally that box of a head is a love letter to the original figure. He has both a sword and rifle that can also combine to a huge sword of doom. Always a good thing I have to say.
Articulation is dead on for the body. Tight shoulder and hips, knees of course and strong elbows. He doesn’t have wrist or ankle joints but I’m ok with that. He does have a waist swivel and his head is on a ball joint.
He’s big and bulky, but can hold some decent poses. He DID fail the one leg standing test so not perfect. Still, with that deco, I am a happy camper.
Being the commander he scales great with his underling. This is important because…
This is the Combiner Wars people! Let’s combine! Together, oh damn…he looks good. Now he doesn’t look great or amazing, but he looks good. Of his 3 forms this is the weakest. The hips are too high, yes. No matter how I try I can’t make that look good…but the thing is, in hand I don’t seem to mind so much.
The combiner had looks great, I love the face. Just shows rage, though the red eyes help. I have no idea why they did the bull/viking horns instead of the helmet crest though. Good news, the head is on a ball joint, so not only can he look all around, but when (you know it is in the works) a 3rd party makes a new head it will be an easy swap.
I know I can’t make him look amazing in this mode, because he’s not. Again he IS GOOD. Plus a hell of a lot easier to work with than Fan Project’s Intimidator. Also when you have him in hand, you can see why they did what they did. It’s hard to say but in hand, it’s much better.
Motormaster is a must have. He is done so well, despite the combiner mode being the weak spot. Why so forgiving? Because despite how much the combiner gimmick is part of the figure, at no point does it HINDER the figure! Just as a stand alone toy, this is great. He is simple, looks great in his primary modes, solid…all I could for. I give him a solid A.
