A while ago I posted the teaser of this line from Bandai. Figuarts of DC characters from the video game Injustice Gods Among us. First I have to say I LOVED that game and hope they make a part 2. The first figure released in the line: Batman. No more intro is needed, let’s dive in!
This is freaking the greatest Batman figure I have ever had in my hands. He is solid, given all the love Bandai can give and I should just end this now and say buy it…but what kind of proper review would this be?
Since they are using the Injustice designs, Batman is a bit more armored up than usual. This is more apparent on the legs than the other parts. I couldn’t help but have the “You’re wearing hockey gear” line from the Dark Knight echo in my head the first time I handled him. Still he grows on you pretty quick.
The cape is interesting. It is solid plastic, and is in 3 parts. The two edges clip to the center housing, and that in turn pegs in to the main figure. It is contoured and actually can stand up on it’s own. This is actually useful, because this has some heft, so for a lot poses Batman actually used the cape to support himself.
The edge pieces can swing around, which from the proper angles can give a sweeping illusion, but in reality yeah it just is just a section of cape shaped plastic.
We do have a small assortment of hands. Fists, open hands, holding hands, and one for his grappling hook. The holding hands are for a pair of batarangs that are just little bits of awesome! These double the action in your action poses.
Other than the Batarangs we have the grappling hook. This has a special hand for it but I’ll be frank, it is lousy for it. The handle is just too large for it, but the open hand fits it ok. I had it in the proper hand, and the fingers and all just looked too mangled. The launcher looks cool, but I think it is about a third over sized in my opinion.
I do like the gimmick of having two versions of the hook, bot in the gun and deployed. This is incredibly light so you can display like this if you choose. This is neat, but not essential.
Last we have an alternate head! I totally love this. Yes the basic head looks great (and watch yourself on the cowl tips, them be sharp!) and nicely detailed, but damn this is just badass! If you are the type who liked Play Arts Kai figures or S.I.C.s you’ll be a fan of the alt head.
The alt head just takes Batman to a more advanced state of badass, but keep in mind, one of my favorite Batman costumes was the Knightfall/Azrael version.
I really can’t express just how much I’m loving this figure. Despite the grappling hook and useless hand, this is damn awesome piece of work. I could not stop taking pictures of him, in fact I killed two knights…err…nights, taking photos. I’m hoping they will continue these figures past the three announced ones. Enjoy the additional pictures taken. Oh and final grade? A+
