New year, New Line! I admit it, the only reason I got this guy this guy was because I got a coupon from Toys R Us. Other reviewers have had Grimlock as the top of their list so I figured he deserved a shot, so let’s check out the hubbub bub!
Grimlock comes packaged in robot mode. I like the color choice of green and black, it is actually a throwback to the RID Grimlock who turned into a construction vehicle. The gold touches things of nicely and I think it really works for the over all scheme. His face is rather bland though. I mean this is Grimlock! If you aren’t going to give him a face plate, give him a raging warriors face! He’s just…kind of chilling.
Articulation is ok. No wrists, no waist swivels, the neck just goes left and right, so don’t expect crazy dynamic action poses here. Still he can get some of the basics alright.
One thing that is a solid let down though is the complete and utter lack of any accessories! You would think he would have a sword, or even a generic blaster, but Hasbro really bare boned it with this guy. You can see above, he really needs some kind of melee weapon.
Lastly let us talk about the size. The “Warrior Class” is the new Deluxe. Now Grimlock next to Prime here looks great. The rub is that this is Activator Prime from Animated. That was the tiny class with the springing transformations…yeah, those little things. This guy is just SMALL. Grimlock should not be small!
Transformation gives us a great little dino mode though. The transformation is in line with the basic Grimlock transformation with some nice stuff done with the leg kibble being used to become the filler for the body. I am fan. He still has his WTF spots though. The hands fold in to the outside of the legs, so they are in plain view. This is sloppy design.
FREAKING TINY!! Sorry…had to vent that…
So I mentioned no accessories, well you should also know that in the package there were no instructions, they were printed on the back. No kind of collectors card, nothing…I know these are just cost cutting things, so with the costs being cut these should be reasonably priced. SHOULD be is the key word. These guys are going for $16.99! Almost the same price as a Marvel Legend! This part really ticked me off. I only bought Grimlock here because of the previously mentioned coupon. This warrior class is just a rip off, so if you have to buy them, use coupons, buy them used…just don’t let this become a norm. It kills me because Hasbro is doing such awesome things with the Generations line, but then flips and gives us this. Blah, sorry for the Rant, but it IS in the blog title…If these were $5 less, I would be less vocal and more forgiving of the shortcomings. B- figure, complete F for the price.
