On the fourth night of Hanukkah, Starscreamer reviewed for me…Transformers Generations Jetifire! No, this isn’t a 3rd part, nor is it a Macross toy in homage colors, oh no…this is an ACTUAL Hasbro release! Man it’s been ages since I have done one it seems…So let us see if the 1rst party can still bring the party!
To start with jet mode, this wonderful, amazing, dead freaking on jet mode…well I like it. This is almost a damn dead ringer for the Bandai Macross Valkyrie. I’m talking call the lawyers dead on. I am in love with this jet mode…
And then you add the weapons. Here it kind of divides from the orignial and I’m not complaining. I mean that guy would fall apart at the drop of a dime…here, just the missile will fire easier than…umm…well it has a hair trigger…
Transformation is totally different than what you would think. Again, this is NOT the g1 design, so my poor attempt for a Gerwalk mode was a utter failure. This isn’t bad, because this is showing they went for complete re-engineering.
Transformed Jetfire is now…SKYfire? Yup! The unique transformation yields a more G1 cartoon styled figure! This was astounding how they pulled it off, and yes, you need to buy one and transform him yourself to see how this works.
The face sculpt is dead on to that reluctant scientist (well in his first episode at lest…). Stoic, cool expression…
In a wonderfully light piped head!
Now, let’s throw them weapons on! Jetfire comes with chromed weapons and an awesome battle mask. Some people I know have painted the gun barrels black and I’ve seen it look pretty damn sharp. Still as-is is no slouch!
Articulation….ok yeah the legs leave a little to be desired. No ankle tilts or waist swivel, so no down on the ground action…
But for a figure of this class, It is all forgivable. The ankles are at a fixed angle for the legs to be akimbo and the arms do go where I want.
Ok this is a goofy as all heck shot, BUT this is Jetfire passing the one legged test! I had to use weapons to counter balance the fixed tilt, but it worked!!
Now I mentioned a figure of his class, he’s a Leader Class figure, so he is huge! Plus he towers over his old friend Starscream, which he should. Final perfection. Now it has been said that this mold is going to be retooled into Thundercracker of all figures. This is both awesome, but man will kill the scale fiends lol.
The armor bits can also combine into a big ole blaster if you choose…but it may scuff up the chrome. Kind of neat, but also a kind of throw away idea.
What is cool though is that since the armor attaches via 5mm pegs, you can now deck him with more weapons! YAY!!!
While one of the final figures I’ve acquired this year I flat out have to say this is the best. This is a must own for any Transformer fan. As I’ve said with Generations Springer, this is why I keep buying Hasbro stuff as well, because when they make a hit, it goes out of the park!
