We are down the the final leg…err…arm of the limbs of Quantron! Overheat, or Maketoys’ rendition of Afterburner is our subject of review. At this moment, I can say I have enjoyed the other figures of this set, hopefully the trend will continue…only way to know though is to read on!
Since he comes in bot mode, will start here. Overheat is an interesting figure. I am a fan of the overall design, that is for sure. The colors are strong, and I really dig how the alt mode kibble is used.
(I have been called the Master of the Segue from my podcast peers) Speaking of the altmode, we have a FREAKING LIGHT CYCLE! I mean how cool is that? This homage is nailed dead on the head. I will warn you that the actual transformation is a bit tricky with the legs, but care and patience will pay off.
The weapon components also can attach to the bike mode for further badassery.
Speaking of the weapons, if you don’t want the giant hammer of destruction, you can break it down to a rifle and missile pods. This works really well in my opinion.
I could totally see him having some kind of troop drop, laying down cover fire from above…
Then break this big boy out and get some up close and personal time with his foes.
Back to the figure himself, we have a great head sculpt. A bit more generic than the others, but shows he is a speedster with the aerodynamic shape. Just doesn’t have the personality of his teammates for some reason.
Now one thing that surprised me was the balance! Despite the small feet, he could still pass the ninja one foot test! Serious bonus points.
Articulation is decent. One thing is you will have to adjust the leg kibble slightly for deeper knee bends. No actual kneeling or three point landing poses, but still dynamic enough.
I mean for a guy with a big ole hammer, you get all you need to be happy.
All said and done, I can say I’m still pleased with Overheat. He is at the bottom of the list in terms of awesomeness, but still a great figure.
Going 4/4 the Quantron team has fended off buyers remorse. Hopefully Metalstorm and the buy guy himself will give this adventure a happy ending…but as for Overheat, yeah one cool figure.
