Quantron returns! We are looking at Maketoys version of the Technobot Lightspeed, or Celeritas! I really have no idea where they get these names from, but at least the toys are cool lol. So now we have the other leg to look at, so let’s see if he is meeting the standards set!
Celerita is a styling bot I have to say. He easily invokes the Lightspeed homage quite nicely with out too many artistic liberties. Of the three I’ve handled, his bot mode looks the most like the original figure.
His altmode is a snazzy futuristic sports car. Some say he pulls his design from the Mach 5 of Speedracer fame. I can kinda sorta see it. I do like how the guns are integrated in this mode.
Celeritas’ face sculpt, much like the others, is awesome. Just enough detail and all the features are sharp.
Articulation is ok. Not as dynamic as the other two, but still shows some personality. If I really had to nit-pick my one complaint is the lack of weapon storage if you don’t want him to hold the guns. Aside from that, I’m really happy.
He does have a gimmick of part of his wheels become clips for his guns. I can see the theory of how this could be cool, but the execution falls flat. The wheels just look broken and while a touch of color to the orange is nice, it isn’t needed.
It has been said that Maketoys and Fans Project share designers. It is really shown in this guy. He is what the Stunticon cars should have been. From a simple but satisfying transformation to an decently poseable robot. Yeah my Intimidator team is envious.
Celeritas keeps the momentum going for this set. He is my solid second favorite, and more importantly keeping the buyers remorse at bay. Stay tuned to see how the rest of the team holds up!
