Well now we move on from the leg to an arm (which is about what Quantron costs now that I think about it…) and go to Blindfire, aka Strafe! This guy has been lauded as one of the top tier of the set, so after enjoying Sonicdrill, had to follow the hype.
Starting out in alt mode, we have an awesome little jet fighter. Weapons are translucent orange, the rest a bold red and white.
This mode really reminds me of the Vic Viper from the side view shooter Gradius (ok, had to wikipedia the ship’s name) so adding another layer of nerdome is always a plus in my book.
Now Maketoys also released this guy in a Terrorcon Cuthroat deco called Ripper. What is really cool is that he DOES have a bird like mode as well! I’ve seen the Ripper pictures and I’ll admit, I wish I bit on him and I’m hoping for a re-release.
Now we have robot form…this fun filled robot form…yeah it lives up to the hype.
The front fins of the jet mode become his swords and the guns can peg on his back shoulders or vise versa. So this guy is either close combat or ranged. Love it!
Or you can even peg the guns on to the wings and have them both on the shoulders. Now the detailing is top notch. I love the face sculpt with the orange visor.
The entire build looks great and the articulation is near perfect. Sure I like deeper knee bends, but the wing fins would have gotten in the way. The feet are on ball joints so we have ankle tilts and yes we have a waist swivel.
Though he is kinda short…that or Sonic Drill is just on the more lanky side…further reviews will help make the proper conclusion.
Still Blindfire lives up to the hype, plus I REALLY regret not getting the Ripper recolor. A figure this much fun though really brings up the major problem with the Quantron set again, that it was a set, and not singles. This guy would be a great stand alone release. I can say now though that my first two figures have not let me down and look forward to going through the rest!
