More Transformers, but NOT movie stuff! From the “wait, really? they are making THIS??” category we have here Generations Rattrap. Honestly there is no way I could predict they would make this guy, and I am just fanboy happy! So let’s see what we have…
Well, we have a rat. What else you want me to say here? Squeek? Jokes aside, this is a pretty good rodent we have in our hands. My daughter was just in love with him. The jaw opens and closes, and the legs slightly pivot. Not much articulation in this mode, but not too much is needed.
He can stand on his hind legs, plus his fore legs are on a pivot (would have preferred a ball joint…) so we can get some slight posing for emotions. Oh and the tail can swing up to get out of the way. Nice touch.
Only major issue when posed like this, you get the robot kibble…and umm…yeah you can peg his rifle on the underside and umm…I’m changing the topic now..
Transformation is a actually pretty cool, just be wary on the legs, you will know when you handle them. The robot mode is pretty damn cool. This is definitely Rattrap from the show. The beast mode kibble works well, just enough to not look like a rat exploded into a robot. I love the head sculpt with the matrixed skull, and the face is DEAD on, and he even has little Maximal symbols on his arms.
For play factor, the rifle breaks down into two weapons. This is ok I guess, I mean it just looks better as a single rifle. Plus for storage, you keep them together anyway. Also it’s translucent white plastic. Not a fan, I think just straight gunmetal would have worked better.
Ok, nit-picking time…I hate the rat ears. Straight up, they kill me in robot mode. They block his face from any angle it seems lol. Again, ball joints could have saved the head, plus added some more expression options for rat mode. Second, the tail just gets in the way for posing. Now on the plus side, it makes him a tripod, and for that back pack, yes it helps him stand up.
Oh, and yes, he totally passes the balance test. Bonus points big time!
Finally we come to my favorite part. In his arm we have a compartment that holds an explosive pack! Yes, the detonation expert is armed! Just a killer detail that really shows the love in the design.
If you are a Beast Wars fan, then yes you really need to get this guy. The pros more than out weigh the cons. A sweat little deluxe with some nice details, there really isn’t more you could want.
Save FIRE BREATHING!!!
(god I just love that effect part…)
