Ok, I admit…I am a total fanboy for the Green Ranger…and in honor of this icon of the 90’s, I give you this EXTREEEEM (have to have more than two EEs) review! When announced, me and Toys R Us started having issues of delays, then canceling…and then bringing him back…but I got him…the one and only Zord worthy of the Green Ranger…so say it with me now…WE NEED DRAGONZORD POWER NOW!
Rarity here, we are looking about packaging. It is in brilliant green and gold, as was the Legacy Megazord. The picture on the front is at a great dynamic angle and the back shows the various combinations with the Legendary Megazord.
Next let’s talk about parts. He has some slight assembly when unboxing. *note I’m photographing as I unbox, hence the bags* We have two sets of hands, the tail, the tip of the tail, and finally the end of the spear/drill for one of the megazord modes.
Then we get the big guy himself. Oh and he’s big…AND heavy. Them legs are and feet are die-cast folks.
Fully assembled the Dragonzord is just flat out beautiful. Now there are no electronics like in the original. So no repetitive sounds…but no lights on the chest. *shrug* Anyway, he is over 11” tall and almost as long with the tail.
The tail can be extended to us segments for flexibility. Unlike other figures *cough*Alienwarrior*cough* the tail holds the poses. Plus it takes a ton of space, so for a lot of pictures I’ll have the tail removed.
Now one fun thing is that you can unhook the arms to allow some actual articulation. In the show the shoulder pieces remained static, but the fore arms could swing around. Still, I can sacrifice accuracy for a nice roaring pose. The two sets of hands are the more claw like and the straight shooting.
I think they could have sprung and gotten us a third set with the missiles in the finger tips, but that is the fanboy in me ranting.
Now the Dragonzord has some good bulk to him. Compared to the T-Rex from the Megazord, he’s just huge. This of course makes it even more impressive for the next phase of the review.
This form is MASSIVE!! Especially with the drill/spear! I absolutely love how the soles of the Dragonzords’s feet become the leg armor. The die-cast is just stellar. This uses the that spear butt/stand for the weapon. The tail you just click together to make the drill.
By the way, THIS is the un-edited shot of the final combined form. It barely fit in my light box to give you an idea…
As far as articulation in this form…well this is about it. He can barely hold the weapon at this angle. Still the fact he can at all is impressive.
With the added height, man oh man he totally dwarfs the t-rex now. If I could afford it, I’d buy a second set of both JUST to keep one displayed in this mode. I absolutely love the green and gold and the Zord’s face is very badass.
Now I have to mention that the Legacy form uses the Zord Builder points. Also any legs other than the Megazord’s won’t work…You can use other arms, but why? I’m kind of glad Saban didn’t see this, it could have ended up in Super Megaforce. Oh wait, no it wouldn’t, that would require creativity…
Now while the Dragonzord towers over the T-Rex, he is still under the Megazord itself, which leads us to the final phase.
Sorry for getting the borders of the back drop in on this, but he is huge…The dragonzord becomes like a cloak of some sort. I have to say, add a cape and it looks like Vega form from Den-O. Now with all the die-cast metal, this is TOP HEAVY. No matter how I tried he would be leaning forward. I do not recommend displaying him in this form with out some kind of added support. I just don’t think the connectors could take the stress for a long period of time.
All in all, if you are a Power Ranger’s fan and you don’t have this guy already, I can recommend him. If you have the Legacy Megazord from before, get him. They really go hand in hand. Bandai of America knocked this one out of the park. Still I wouldn’t recommend for the casual action figure collector, mostly because the Legacy Megazord is now going for twice his original retail. Me, though, I’m happy…but then I also have the Dragon Dagger and Morpher…man I’m such a geek…lol
