Well last time we took on the big guy, and he was…cool. So now I have the smaller version which due to the logic that bigger is always better, means that this should just be a ok kind a toy…I dunno…after all the only absolutes are Death and Vodka after all, so let’s see how he rates!
Let us start in Dino mode! Why? Because once again even though the he is packaged in robot mode, the instructions STILL start in Dino? Still trying to figure this all out…Anyway, this is a GREAT T-Rex! First the arms are 100% better! Look, he is pondering, how cute! Jokes aside the total proportion lay out is so much better than the Leader version. Also the face sculpt is just gorgeous. I totally am digging the eyes.
Plus his balance is sooo much better. You can actually pose this guy! Look, he seems to be walking! The profile has the contours the leader severely needed as well. Finally while chrome is cool, the over all color scheme is much nicer.
Oh…umm…you can store the weapon on the tail to make a longer tail if you are so inclined. While I’ve said I’m a sucker for weapon storage in alt modes…umm…I am not that much of a sucker…but I give points for effort.
Finally we have to talk about the toy’s gimmick, and that is this awesome flame thrower built in, just like the trailer!!!! Eh, I’m totally messing with you…this guy has jaw chomping action. This is cool and I like that this doesn’t mess with the over all figure. So it’s there, like it or not.
Ahh, now we come to robot mode. As said before, the Dinobots are now Knights of Cybertron it seems, and I freaking love it!
Again a great helmet sculpt. I do like that the robot and T-rex both share those awesome eyes. There are definite differences between Leader and Voyager, but both I think thrive in their approaches to this robot design.
Articulation is dead on. Even though sans waist swivel, I get all I need.
Grimlock also passes the test of great awesomeness, other wise known as he can stand on one leg with no assistance.
Now one thing I find, I’m not sure…annoying? is that he does have wrist swivels, but if you follow the instructions and peg the dino feet into the arms, you lose that feature. Needless to say I leave mine unpegged.
Now as you have seen, for weapons Grimlock comes with this big ole club like thing, even if held in an odd way with the handle. It isn’t my favorite weapon I’ve had with toys, but it works with his style.
One nice touch is that it does store on his back sort of out of the way…
Still though, the third parties provide enough alternatives out there that you can find something to augment this guy.
“Me Grimlock have your Heavy Arms right here!” I’m still not sure if I want him to talk like that in the movie…oh so torn…
Hmmm…this feels oh so right…but I digress…
I thing Voyager Grimlock can really live up to the namesake. We have a warrior that turns into a ferocious dinosaur that looks like he’s ready to do some damage. Sold. As for Voyager vs Leader? Well, Leader has a fantastic robot mode, but his alt mode leaves a ton to be desired. Voyager though hits all the right buttons on me. If you can only buy one, get the voyager.
I hopefully will get the rest done, but all the Dinobots are top notch. Even so I will say, I recommend all, and hopefully will get time to get you all the reviews they deserve.
