Ok, I am excited…first figure in a new toy line…This is the one that sets the bar for others to be judged in the Age of Extinction line. I was excited to find this guy in Walmart with two Dinobots that I scooped up. There was a Bumblebee…but dear lord I have too damn many and we all know there will be more…So let us delve into this new line…
THIS is where we first see Crosshairs. This is from the trailer of the new movie, and he is in mid air, John Wooing two machine pistols on to airplanes with split jacket sides flowing like wings…From this image I can honestly say I did not expect his alt mode to be…
A NEW CAR!! Yeah I know…I was hoping for an Aerialbot to be honest. Still, we have a new Corvette design. It’s also really really really green…wow…and black.
Now I admit, I like the Tuner style non uniform paint, but still it could use a splash of more color. I may take the paint brush to the car logo for example, a touch of silver to match ‘dem rims.
Now robot mode yields some really cool things. The jacket gimmick…I have to say it works! Using soft plastic, there are parts that tab into the chest. Now I know one day this will get brittle and break, but it is clever! Also the he packs two small pistols and the larger machine gun. The pistols peg inside the car body and the gun on the under side in alt mode, and you all know I love it when a toy can hold his stuff in both modes. Here the predominant green and black doesn’t bug me so much, but he does have more silver in his production shots, so will keep the paints out after I work on the hood.
Articulation is basic. I only have two complaints in that department, one, they could have put in a waist joint easy. Second the head barely can move. Speaking of the head, he has these cool goggles, but they are static. Also while he has heel spurs the kibble/jacket still makes him back heavy. Good thing though is that same kibble can work as a tripod to support him.
I got to admit really am liking his design. What could have been just another generic car bot has turned into unique figure thanks to some creative design.
So is this guy a perfect figure? Nope, while the coat gimmick works, it still pops out. He needs a few more joints and a neck that lets him look around. Is he a bad figure? Not by far. This is no Dark of the Moon Jolt or a Skids/Mudflap. My favorite part? He doesn’t have a crazy Bayverse face!
So if this is how the line is starting, I have some decent faith for the AoE figure line. Now just have to hope this guy actually does something in the movie!
