Ok…gotta brag…my new favorite pic I have taken…ANYWAY! Unique Toys came on the scene with an ambitious project of their Predaking. The first of those was Warhawk/Divebomb…and there is a reason you haven’t seen that guy on this site. It was plagued with QC errors, really light plastic and all kinds of issues…The thing is, at first glance…it was a great g1 update! That is what Sharky is. G1, absolutely, with just a bit of upgrading. So I took the chance…read on for the verdict!
When you buy them, they are a three pack. Each has a different robot face, and one also has different coloring. I call them Grumpy, Stumpy and…umm…errr…(Hey honey? give me a name for a robot will you?)…and Stephen. I LOVE the faces. These are great scrub minions. Did I mention they are a three pack? Instant army built!
Transformation is really simple…flip in the head, open the body, swivel in the legs and umm…wow…ok that looks just odd…Still, tuck in the legs and rotate down the arms. Close him up and push in the fists, plug in the tail and…
Holy 1984!! These are 3 fantastic Sharticons..err Sharkies! There is no mistake what we have here. All 3 are alike save the violet one. He is essentially the commander.
The jaws open and close. The eyes are this reflective gold plating. I do worry about scraping and chipping one day though. The arms swivel up and down and the horns…umm…they suck. They pop out at the drop of a hat. They are plugged into screw holes. I am thinking of just gluing them in.
The mace just plugs in to be his tail. Getting the right balance can be tricky, but the legs adjust just fine. One propped, he stands solid. My wife calls this the cutest in my collection…ok she has weird taste, but she did marry me, so yeah..
Back to robot mode. We have the mace tail, and a blaster. The only thing I am let down on is there is no storage for the blaster in alt mode. Articulation is simple, but is just perfect. Head swivels, hips and arms are on ball joints, rotating elbows, simple knees and ball jointed ankles. The last is the killer because it just gives you the right amount of give for various stances.
Really the robot forms just are full of personality. You could see them in the background of any show just doing crazy stuff.
They also scale pretty well with the current Generations Deluxe class.
Buuuuut no so much with the voyagers…
Also they have 5mm peg hole hands! So you can go crazy giving them weapons. I have to tell you how this just adds soooo much more fun…wait, why tell when I can show!
Perfect Effect Reflector team has nothing on these boys…
Finally the plastic and QC is great. Nice gauge, so they don’t feel cheap and I have had zero breakage issues. I may need to break out some clear nail polish for the ball joints but that is because I have just been having too much fun with them.
Oh that three pack? Only $90 at most retailers! So that is about $30 a pop for these guys. Right up there with the Mech Ideas on pricing. Easy deal, I mean if takara made these guys importing would be about the same. Split a set with your buds, or just army build. Oh the box art is awesome as well.
I really think Unique Toys should have opened their line with this team instead of the Predacons. They have announced that they are making a Galvatron and a Blaster. Before handling them I would have said easy pass, but now? I keep wanting to hit the pre-order button. Igear is making a team of these guys as well, but they just don’t have the charm from the pictures I’ve seen. They don’t look like they have the, well, fun these guys offer. So Sharkies get my full recommendation! You can get them at TF Source and Big Bad Toy Store!
