I promised this follow up! Really! After the Chaos set, Make Toys made just the separate Mobine kit. There have been two versions, the Marine (shown in this review) and the Jungle. They are the same save color…so you can use this review for both. I was all hyped back in the day for this set…now though? After delays…more delays…rumors…and one last delay…well…
The Marine Mobine is the same piece that came with Paladin, just in more generic colors and also with a huge rifle and smaller cannon that clip using 3mm clips…which brings me to my first gripe out of the gate. The rifle is awesome. Fits in all 5mm hands just fine. The other cannon is ONLY clip system. So really just a side piece…
The armor looks good I have to say on most of the PCC commanders. The greys (about 46 shades short of a bad novel…) blend well with the orange highlights. The plastic is pretty good, but feels…lighter than it should.
Now in the instructions there is an alternative build that has smaller legs and bulkier arms. A nice contrast, and if you had two sets just another way to set them apart.
The additional ports can be used with the original PCC drones as well, so if you want to just add a bit more fire power to your PCC team…
or just give a more menacing build, you can do so.
Now be aware, the Mobine doesn’t work perfectly with all the PCC commanders. Smolder here is a perfect example. You see how the shoulder is at an angle?
The reason is the peg that hold those pieces together in tank mode can’t clear the shoulder. This seems to happen with the Huffer/Crankcase mold as well. This was a major let down for me because when I pre-ordered the set stocked up on almost all the commanders.
Oh and if you want…you can attach the drones while in tank mode. I swear this looks like the alt mode for the CLAWS set for Kamen Rider Birth…but anyway, the Mobine set is cool, BUT not essential. As soon as I started working with Marine, I canceled my pre-order for Jungle type. I had perhaps too high hopes for this set. If you want something to breath some life to your PCC team and can’t afford TFC’s Iron Army, this may be a nice alternative.
