Once again into the third party rabbit hole…still don’t see the bottom…Before we had Quadruple U, or Not Weird Wolf…now we have Not Brainstorm/Smart Robin. Does he keep the standard? Is he innovative? Do we really need to ask questions we already know the answers to?
To start off let’s go to the alt mode. A space jet…yes this is very spacey and very jety…I love it! Also it is light, but doesn’t feel cheap. Actually he feels more solid than just about all my Beast Hunters figures…
Finally this is a CLEAN look. I dare you to find robot bits on this guy! He is just 100% space jet! The underside? it is just deployable landing gear!
Being a not-headmaster, of course we have the opening cockpit with pilot.
Just like Quad U, he is pure brick…
The most bad ass transformation ever yields this amazing robot. I am sorry but the design for him is just ingenious! Find me jet kibble! Do it! The wings? They became his feet! The cockpit? It folds into the body…no…is more absorbed into it…you just have to handle one…my pictures could not do it justice.
The biggest flack Smart Robin gets has to be his face. In US Rebirth, the Headmasters cartoon and original toy, has him with a face plate. In the Japanese Headmasters, he has this face. The were just following the version Asia watched as opposed to his total oh…9 minutes of screen time in a 90 long commercial? (OK, I am bitter about Rebirth damn it…we should have gotten more)
The blasters on his nose cone can be removed to be his hand blasters. So he is ready to fight.
His body offers just about all the posing options I could want…well I did say just about…his shoulders I wish offered more clearance and if the wrists could swivel…but this is me looking for something to complain about. The neck still swivels just like Quad U’s does.
And speaking of our good friend…YES you can headswap…BUT I have to say Smart Robin’s guy is a little smaller, so he just rests in the yellow body.
Two things I have learned from owning Smart Robin…the Function X line is amazing, and I REALLY need to get my hands on Code!
Really if you are a fan of the Head Masters, you need this guy in your collection. Now I know Toy World had their own version and I am tempted…but really Fans Project is taking care of that need.
