Ok, I’m a bad collector, but hope to make up for it. I missed MP-10 the 5 minutes it was available…and missed MP Sideswipe (but have him on pre-order) and Red Alert…so Prowl is the first of the “new type” MPs I have. I haven’t been much of a Prowl fan in general, so I was ready to buy this, fiddle and resell…but read on and you’ll see his final fate…
Prowl comes packaged in his Datsun greatness. For those of you not old like me…Datsun became Nissan in the 80’s. While his body is kinda thick, the wheels still hit the ground evenly and he rolls quite nice. The detail of course is amazing. Really hits all the nails on the head. I particularly like his hub caps and the rear wind shield wiper, just a nice touch.
Prow’s only additional accessory is his rifle. This pegs into the light bar, so he has a battle mode, or as I like to call it, a way not to lose the accessory lol. Kind of kills the whole giant Matchbox car look, but hey this is a toy.
Now robot mode is of course where this guy shines. A slightly complex transformation that is still inspired by the g1 version. This is no Alternator, so no major frustration, though the legs are tricky the first time. Still though, LOOK at his face! That stoic stare, slight frown…and the red just pops from his crest. As someone on one of the websites I frequent said “Yup, it’s Prowl.” This is the definitive Prowl though.
The engineering is great I have to say. Fully joints, waist, knees, rotating wrists…
He even balances great! No stand, just gravity here.
His rifle pegs into his hand tightly, and then you just close the fist around the gun. Now the only real teeny tiny nit pick I can dredge out of this guy is the fact the fingers are molded solid. I have been spoiled with individual fingers with my other high end figures.
Ok that and he doesn’t quite scale well with other Masterpieces…seriously…the Cons have no excuse for losing now…
Finally my favorite little detail would be the shoulder cannons. I LOVE these! They fold inside the body, so if you don’t like them, don’t deploy them! In Japan they actually had additional clip on rockets as an Amazon exclusive, but I am not hurting too bad not having them.
Compared to the last versions of Prowl we have received, I have no major complaints at all. Quality is solid, both modes look great and I have no major complaints at all. I have the other Datsun guys on order as well, so this should be a sweet display. I highly recommend him for any g1 fan.
