Well I finally have time now to write this…It has been crazy the last few weeks, so plenty of catching up to do! Now this is actually the SECOND Ultra Magnus Voyager made…the first is still MISB actually, so hopefully I’ll be able to free him soon. This is a remold of the PRID Voyager Prime…and it wasn’t my most flatering review. Click here to flash back. So for some odd reason I took a chance on this. The results were…surprising.
Ultra Magnus is the same but much different. Straight up, I LIKE this guy!!! It is amazing what a little refining can do to a figure. The colors look great, love the shoulders, and the clip on back pack fleshes him out wonderfully.
The face sculpt is really cool, though have been tempted to panel line it to make it more defined. Also I would have liked that Autobot symbol to be white or red…but there is a reason for that…
The shoulder pads of doom also fold down so he can launch the missiles. These are friction launched, so no springs. Also a nice nod to the g1 version’s shoulder rockets as well.
There are also 5mm peg holes, probably taken from the Arms Micron (insert rant here) version. This is grate though if you want to add more weapon choices. Even better because he wasn’t packed with a side arm…
Instead though, we get this awesome war hammer! Now this is no where near as large as the one in the Platinum version, but still, much more impressive than say, the sword Prime came with. Plus he holds it very well, and the back pack works as a great counter weight for poses. That back pack adds some great definition to the figure I have to say.
Alt mode is near identical. I’m still not a fan of the transformation, the arms are a pain…but again, some how THIS version pulls it off better! Plus no lame “battle mode” like the previous one had.
The jet pack pegs into the back, and the hammer is stored with it. You can also clip the missiles there if you want. This just finishes out the mode wonderfully. It reminds me of the Jet Convoy from Takara for Dark of the Moon.
Plus the wings unfold so he can fly with Beast Hunters Prime if you so incline! Also if you see here, if that Autobot symbol on his chest was more prominent, you would see it was upside down, so I understood what they were doing.
Oh and you can still take advantage of the peg holes…hmmm…looks like I don’t need the weaponizer form now..
I don’t know how, but this totally redeems the mold. I highly recommend this figure! Some how he negates all I hated about the first round, and he is spot on with the show. Yeah I’d have liked a rifle or blasters, but you can get that from a third party or just borrow from another toy. This is one that the designers pulled from the grave perfectly.
