Bandai’s Super Robot Chogokin line has been on a hell of a roll. From Mazinger, to the Senai robots, to Brave…it is a line worth collecting. The latest (and near greatest) release is Go Nagi’s Grendizer! This was to be the ultimate of his giant robots back in the day, and aside from a short, the only one that hasn’t gotten the modern treatment…yet…
Grendizer is glorious I have to say. Nice and heavy die cast feet, legs, and body…brilliantly colored in silver, red and a touch of blue.
Of course the face is immaculate with the gold horns. Also the chromed bits on the shoulder set him off perfectly in any light.
Like the Mazinger series before him, full articulation. He his able to be fit into and hold many poses. One of the neat things is with his fore arms, the red spikes are mounted on ball joints by the elbows so they can move out of the way to not hinder the arm movement.
He is also much much larger than Mazinger! This is a big bot here people…a big AWESOME bot though.
Grendizer also has an AMAZING accessory count!! It had to be split into two trays!
Aside from the alternate hands (open, rage, fist, and holding of course) we have alternate fore arms! Grendizer didn’t just have rocket fists, oh no, his were spiked! What is really cool is when you look inside there is the molded fist.
What really is awesome though is the effect part of the rocket punch! This pegs in nice and solid. Plus the arm is quite light, so no stand is needed!
We got two of these bad boys so we can go rocket happy! I was pleased to see these parts packaged in, the first Mazinger Z SRC had them as an add on that you had to purchase separate.
Next we have the lightning effect. You can remove Grendizer’s horns, though put them straight into the parts tray…they are TINY. The lightning effect actually has a new set of horns attached so it plugs snugly into the head. This is perfect execution, a definite step up from the Megazord’s lightning.
Finally we get to Grendizer’s trademark weapon. The chrome shoulder pieces can be removed for show accuracy for this. In the cartoon they would pop off and then deploy handles. They can of course be independently wielded…BUT…
In the grand anime tradition, they do combine to become his glaive. This is an awesome melee weapon indeed! Also the way the fists rotate on their sockets you can move his arms around in poses without him dropping the weapon. The down side is after doing that, well…their grip seemed to lessen a bit…
Still, would be a bad day to be a giant monster if it had to face down this guy.
Now, also like Mazinger, there was a little peg that could be inserted for a Tamashii stage…BUT I also noticed on his back a familiar peg hole…so I go to my shelf and grab Shin Mazinger…and…
GOD SCRANDAR COMBINE!!! Yeah this was an unexpected bonus! Also makes me wonder if there will be an add on set for Grendizer…
GOD GRENDIZER ROCKET PUNCH!! That will be in my fanfic…lol. This I have to say adds some awesome display value.
Needless to say, if you are collecting the SRC stuff, a fan of old school anime robots, etc this is a must buy. Great accessory count, loads of posing factors and just over all a solid bad ass figure for a bad ass robot.
