It has been a bit, so I’ll give you guys a double review with Mech iDeas’ debut of Apex and Geminus, aka the not-jumpstarters! For the first foray into the third party are these guys worth your time? Read on!
Apex and Geminus easily embody the classic look of the Junpstarters. Like their predecessors, have the same bodies with remolded details. They share the same transformation but man these are no seeker/bumblebee clones! From the “jet” (or hover car) mode of Apex to the drill tank of Geminus we have two distinct toys.
They pull the color scheme directly from the G1 inspiration with a few creative liberties. Needless to say they are more than forgivable. I am using Geminus/Twin Twist for the comparison because my Top Spin is…umm…ok it’s on a shelf too blasted high for me to reach and the Mrs. is using the ladder…ANYWAY…
Let us talk weapons!! Each has a unique set of guns and one bad ass hammer! With the name Demolition in the name you better be able to wreck and rule if you know what I mean!
One of the cooler parts of the design hast to be the fact you can have the hammer hidden under the vehicle mode. Just keeps a nice clean look…or of course it could be used as an additional cannon to further differentiate the characters.
Articulation and balance are exceptional as well. I mean can have them surfing on each other and no stand was used for this shot!
Their joints are swivels and friction joints but do not restrict in any way. We can give them some dynamic poses as you can see. The arms and legs can hit all angles and we even have a waist swivel! My only concern would be over time we will get wear.
A neat little thing is that the hammer can be used in its broken down form as an arm cannon. I like this because I like to think Apex is the gunner of the team…
While his brother is more the hands on type…
Also they are quite light but still sturdy! So for posing with a stand you really have zero worries.
In general, these guys show some great personality and give us an amazing remake of some fun older toys.
We have an awesome debut from new company and really look forward to their future works. Have I mentioned the price? You can get the pair for $68! For a third party company that is a great price! I highly recomend Captured Prey, the will treat you VERY well!
