Ok, I LOVE King of Fighters. Hands down playing that game in college is why I sell furniture and am not a Psychologist lol. When I heard Bandai was releasing a figure of the Lone Wolf I got excited. I mean what could go wrong? Then I heard it was in their D-arts line. Ok, not too bad, they do the Megaman stuff…so I put in a pre-order and here he is!
Well first off, Terry comes in an awesome box. Not as cool as some of the SRCs I have, but ahead of the Kamen Rider figures. I love how it has the KoF ‘94 logo! They definitely show off the sculpt, posing and some of the extras in the box.
And speaking of the sculpt! The jacket has all the nice creases, as does the shirt in showing off that chiseled chest and his huge manly arms that are meant to ho—err…sorry…Mrs. Screamer was writing that one, I walked away to check on the baby…grrr…ANYWAY, The sculpt shows off the details pretty damn well. From the arms, to the folds in the shirt, even the creases in the jeans.
Seriously, these are the coolest pants I have seen on a figure. Only thing cooler, his Chuck Allstars! I do like how the pants just drape over the shoes…well I like it visually…you see…
DUDE CAN’T STAND WITH OUT A STAND!! I tried! on so many flat surfaces…he just can not stand up straight! This is a serious strike against the figure. I mean I have stands, don’t get me wrong, but he should have come with one.
Now posing, he is…well…ok. His legs are great, ankles suck (lack of standing thing) and while his wrists turn and shoulders…he really needed a bicep swivel. I’m sorry but to hit some of the cooler video game poses, he is hindered. Now I know why they didn’t, the wanted to keep his arms looking clean around his muscles, but they could have put the swivel around the tear in his shirt or something. This lacking of feature is another ding I have to put on the score card.
As for what he does come with…We have some…interesting accessories. First the hands, which have a peg in system, much like Revoltechs. Also be careful when switching hands, the black cuffs of the gloves are like the bracelets with Kamen Rider W and easy to lose. With the hands we have fists of course, open calm hands, flat open splayed hands which really don’t make sense honestly…two hands for holding the tip of his hat (totally cool), one special hand with the knap sack (also really damn cool). I would have loved a finger pointing like a gun for his “stand up” win pose, or a thumbs up for “OK!” in lieu of the open hands personally. We also have two pony tails, much like Kamen Riders have scarves to show motion, and the plug. The plug goes into..well the seat of Terry’s pants, but this allows the stand to plug into his back. No claw needed, so that is a plus.
Also like some Revoltechs, we have a choice of faces, smirking, grim, and shouting. There is also his hat which pegs to the heads. Alas because of that, you really can’t have him in a throwing the cap pose with out it looking really really odd.
Then we have the effect pieces. Oh yes, this is where things get cool, first is the BURN KNUCKLE! With a half circle back and puch, Terry would rush forward with his fist engulfed with chi. This is two parts, one clips to the fore arm, the other over the fist.
This really looks sweet! Now at this time I have not tried to see if this fits on my Figuarts, but if it does, oh we will have some SWEET Rider Punches!!!
Next is this little guy, the Power WAVE! Quarter circle forward punch and Terry would punch the ground and a wave of energy would head to his opponent.
Simple, but it works I have to say. Oh and speaking of simple and video game moves, with the peg plugged into his back…
RISING TACKLE! I will admit, one I was hoping to recreate…but anyway…the highlight extra for this has to be the..
POWER GEYSER!! This totally blew me a way. I almost want to say this Terry is worth getting just to have this. This is also why he didn’t come with a stage I assume.
The super move looks just astounding! Plus this thing just looks good with any figure…
Again, I have to say, did not buy Terry JUST for this, but man…if they release this effect solo, it will be a must own…
I really wanted to say that this was a figure missing from my world. But I have to say, of all my imported figures, this is my first real disappointment. He is like a combination of a Figuart and a Revoltech, but not quite pulling of either. Honestly if Revoltech made him like they did Vash, I would be in geek heaven. Instead I’m just…meh. I can’t say I totally recommend him unless you are a total KOF/Fatal Fury die hard.
From hindered posing to just not being able to stand solo, these are the things that make a bad figure. The extras are pretty damn sweet, don’t get me wrong, but *sigh* poor Terry, like the rest of SNK is just getting short changed…
PS oh included was this little tidbit…looks like a Samurai Spirit will be joining the ranks as well…
