What we have here is history, Kamen Rider 1, the guy who started it all! Needless to say, a lot resting on his shoulders. So let us see, can the past be well represented in the future?
What made this sculpt a challenge I think is the fact of just how simple it is! Spandex, boots, and a mask. No shoulder pads to use on the joints, or crazy armor to wrap around details. Well Figuarts definitely pulls it off.
I am just in love with the helmet! Those eyes…oh one could get lost in them…and the mouth plate, oh the whole package…really just a stellar sculpt!
The costume itself is black with painted silver trim and the green chest guard. The arms are more of a Sentai sculpt with the shoulders, BUT no bicep swivel. The thing is, there is no way the could have incorporated one in with out disrupting the paint on the arms.
Aside from the arms, no issues with posing at all! He can make some excellent dynamic poses. He is really sets himself apart I have to say. The scarf is on a separate ball joint, so you can have it billowing in the wind or to accent implied motion. There are two, one a more relaxed, flopped state, the other to extend outward.
Of course the usual array of hands, chopping, fist, holding, relaxed and one with the thumb tucked for the henshin pose. We also have this gorgeous sword! This is from Shocker, his adversaries, and while not as shiny as Gridman’s, it is the same metal color as his belt.
The hilt has the eagle head molded on, and really gives it a more high end non generic sword look.
(Best picture in the set) Kamen Rider 1 is much more known for unarmed fighting than having a weapon, but man, it gives him some style!
Finally, yes, and Effect Part!!! This of course is for the ever important…RIDER KICK!
When set right, this is iconic image for every Kamen Rider. Now as opposed to V3 this is much simpler to affix.
Basically it just fits around the foot. Yes, this is easy to affix, but at the same time, it pops off just as easy. Even more frustrating is when the foot pops through it and it slides down the leg. I keep worrying that I may damage it, but so far so good.
If you are a fan of the series, hands down this is a must own. It’s a great figure in its own right as well of course. Highly detailed, and up to full Figuarts standards, this is the Iconic figure to have. There are also two more repaints, Kamen Rider 2 with red gloves, boots and a Rider Punch effect, and a darker repaint as well. You will be happy with any in your collection.
