This is an interesting figure, from the Shin Getter Armageddon OVA we have Getter 1. One of the older Revoltech figures, before they embraced using their joints for the entire figure. So after working with the Neo, can we go retro on this Retro design?
I will say, compared to Neo-Getter’s design, Getter 1 is a slight disappointment. What kills it for me are the shoulders, they are NOT Revoltech Joints, instead they are spheres that rotate on the half point. This is not unlike the Glyos system if you are in the loop. When I’m used to everything being able to pivot though, this throws a wrench in the flow. Also his right arm got really loose after a few poses. Maybe this is with mine, but this is a display piece, not a "toy” indeed. He has a tiny head as well…it is on a Revoltech joint, but it is also on an angled piece, so it looks around at funny angles.
Now one thing I love about this guy, is the accessory count. Of course it comes with the Revoltech stand, and then we have the guns. I LOVE the guns!!! These things tore through some mass produced Getter Gs like paper…oh so nice. We also have a pair of Getter Tomahawks, hands to hold the weapons, dramatic splayed hands, fist hands, the cape/Getter Wing…
And these guys…a chop hand and…the Getter Rabbit Punch of doom? Ok, this one I have no clue about…
I mean does he use this on Getter 3 to take his lunch money? Go figure…I loved Shin Getter Robo, and I can not for the life of me remember him punching like this.
Then we have the cape/GETTER WING!!! (with Getter Robo you have to shout everything, it is a rule) This looks great in pictures, hands down. Looked awesome on the box art! I totally hate how it attaches. It is held on by friction basically. It just clips to the back, but you have to kind of force it on. It will keep that billowing look like his floating in the wind but that is it. No draping down by his legs. Not a fan to be honest here.
Still it does look rather clean when attached, but just don’t flick it or drop it.
While the shoulders do seem make it a bit awkward to pose initially, he does hit all those dynamic anime poses. He does look sweet on the shelf.
Getter 1 (series 31) is not the worst figure in the collection, but not the strongest. He does get the job done though as far as representing the figure. Now they did make a black version of this mold with some more brutal elements, but that guy goes for $100 plus. This I have seen for about $30…but there are some $15 dollar ones out there if you know how to shop. Here is the thing, they made a NEW version of this guy called Renewal Version. I do have it on order, so I will be doing comparisons. What I’m REALLY interested in, is if the hands and accessories will be compatible…
