So the same day I got Spider-Man I also picked up this shell head of an Avenger. This is the 6 inch Avengers movie line of Iron Man. Now this is the Walmart exclusive with the battle damage, so if you like them a bit cleaner, he’s out there. Now after that last Hasbro release, how is he rating?
Not too shabby actually. Is he perfect? No, but we will get into that a bit later. I can say he is much much better than that Spider-Man. The plastic is nice and chunky, the double joints hold their poses well. He is nicely detailed I do have to say. For a US figure that you can buy at Walmart, that is a big deal.
Now I have both this guy and the Revoltech. While they are about the same size there are some differences between them, and what I found interesting, the import didn’t win them all….
…and he is a sore loser about it…
Of course all Revoltech figures have the Revoltech joints…and that isn’t always a good thing if you don’t have a stand. The Hasbro guy has no issues just standing around with out assistance. This is great for displaying purposes for us collectors, and if the intended audience (yes I mean the kids…this IS a kids toy…) wants to toss him around, you don’t have to worry about arms and legs popping off. Now he does NOT have a waist joint, just a chest swivel. The bad news, he can’t do the three point landing. Just doesn’t look right…
(Speaking of things that don’t look right…) BUT he can keep up with the Revoltech in a dance off! Goofy pose, yes, but I am just impressed with what this guy can do! The arms almost have full range of motion, the wrists do rotate, the head is on a ball joint, though while he can look down, can’t look up and even the ankles have some freedom.
Ok, now with Accessories, yes the import wins. No hands, no effects, not even a clip on rocket. But he does come with this simple stage, like Spider-man did. His foot pegs in and he is stable! As you see, no issues with just a one legged pose. This is GREAT for you desk displayers. Can just have him in all kinds of action poses, and he won’t be falling over left and right.
I set up up like this to show a) how sturdy of a grip that peg has and b) just what all these joints do!
The Walmart exclusive has all this nice battle damage to it. Since I love my asymmetry, this is a great touch. We have scorching on the chest, leg and a little on the arm. Looks like he is ready to just finish the battle and get a plate of schwarma.
Is the Hasbro Mark VII perfect? Nope, he could use hand options, an abdomen crunch and/or a waist swivel, not to mention the ability to look up. But for that I have the Revoltech. The thing is, this guy costs only $14.95 USD right now…so if you DON’T want to drop that cash, he is what you should get! Even if you have the Revoltech, the battle damaged looks great for a display, or even a photo shoot. Oh and if you have younger visitors who just HAVE to put their hands on your collection, this is a great one to give the kid. Not much he can do it it….Plus looks great on the work desk, as long as you aren’t trying to impress that one girl down from accounting…
