Have I mentioned how much I love the Cyberverse series with Prime? Great distribution and some great figures. Today I have two amazing examples of why I collect this series, and highly recommend them to others.
Ok storywise, Skyquake (left) was left on earth, Starscream wanted to use him..he got blowed up, then season 2 Dreadwing appeared yadda yadda…we have two brothers of destruction, who while share the same mold have some GREAT cosmetic differences that make them a bit more than just repaints. And as they say the devil is in the details
The way their faces are heads are painted are great! From Skyquake’s face and crest being uniform grey surrounded by the olive green gives him a more sinister, alien appearance. Dreadwing’s face is encased by the blue helmet, giving a more warrior’s aspect. Skyquake’s armor looks like it is covering the grey body, like insect plating. Again a more organic alien look. The armor painting with Dreadwing on the other hand being all uniform gives him a more hulking armored aspect highlighted with the blue extras. Two identical figures, not even remolds, but still individuals. I LOVE IT!
Their jetmodes on the other hand are the same. Not a bad thing mind you, but their paints make them from two different squadrons. Dreadwing has a more embellished version of the Decepticon symbol on his wings coupled with his Blue Angles paint job. They remind me of the Elite Guard from Animated. Skyquake is more of an army jet a warrant officer would fly with his olive green. The jet mode pegs together solid, no lose panels at all. A very solid toy. When I saw the jet, it reminded me of a certain jet from Macross, so you know what I had to try…
And he Gerwalks like a champ! So VERY VERY high on the play value I do have to say…
The above picture highlights the next two awesome things: articulation and accessories! The robot mode balances great, and even has a THIGH swivel! For a figure that size that is so cool! The arms and elbows are all on ball joints so plenty of angles and directions to rotate to. No waist swivel, but with the transformation, totally forgivable. I really really thing though a head swivel could have been incorporated, but what can you do.
The two guys have a nice weapon set. Dreadwing has a cannon and sword combination. Now they can be combined to be a gunblade kind of thing…but I find it stupid to be frank.
Skyquake on the other hand, to NOT combine is a sin! This is a gun that screams…well GUN. These weapons by the way are pegged under the wings when in jet mode or even their arms if you want a more hands free look. Plus of course you can use any other Cyberverse weapons as well…but I’ll save that for the end
I have stated before that the Cyberverse is a GREAT way to have the Prime line in your collection. The figures are easy to find (hell just to compensate I have like 3 or 4 Vehicons) and especially the commanders represent their characters with justice. These two though are the cream of the crop. Rumor has it they will also both be getting Voyager versions and I WILL have them. These guys though look great on the shelf, by the computer, even on a cubicle shelf.
—oh remember what I said about other Cyberverse weapons?
