I was never into Kamen Rider at one time…actually not too long ago, but the action figure review guys would from time to time show the Figuarts. It wasn’t until W that my interest became serious. Then I saw the reviews for two particular figures, and this is one of them. Kamen Rider W Joker. This was a Tamashii exclusive, and frankly if you want one you will be paying good money for it. I came across a deal and couldn’t say no. If you want the pictures, just read ahead.
Kamen Rider Joker was from W’s big movie. In this Shotaro loses his partner Phillip so can not become W (like Firestorm, needs two guys to become the hero). Shotaro gets his hands on the Lost Driver, that uses a single Gia Memory so now he can become a singular Rider. OK, for all that to make sense, go watch Kamen Rider W, then the movie, my site will still be here by the time you finish, plus a few more reviews…ok…read on…
Joker arrived in this beautiful simple box with the Joker symbol on it, and minimal art. I would have that image as a poster in a heart beat. You feel like you are about to open something really really special.
I was floored getting this guy in my hands. I can hardly say a bad thing about it. You have this dead sexy matte black finish trimmed with the purple and just the hint of red. I absolutely love him. Just look at those eyes…one could get lost in them…anyway…Do note the joints are TIGHT. I thought Meteor was bad, this guy makes him look like Agito. Also the crest, it is pointy, feels flimsy, and seems to want to catch onto anything. Be careful.
As always the detailing is amazing, and despite the tight joints, he can hold some great poses.
Chances are this is how I will keep him displayed.
Accessory count! Four pairs of hands (fourth is the ones used in the henshin pose above) and this dark plastic display stage with the name and symbol on it. The reason I didn’t have the hands in the picture is they are a pain to switch! I forgot how bad it was with Fang Joker, and will be just as bad when Cyclone Joker arrives I know. But dear lord, I was going nuts, so those hands are staying on lol.
Now as I said before, Joker’s black is a nice matte black vs the gloss the other figures have. Just makes him cooler frankly. I think it really lets the purple pop.
I will say I always wondered what would happen if Phillip tried the lost driver with Fang…
For those in the know, Joker is based on Kamen Rider Black, and it shows. Will have to take more pictures of the two of them interacting.
So of course I recommend this figure. If you can afford him, you will not be displeased. Despite the tight joints, fists and the crest, his is one of the coolest Figuarts made to date second only to Skull (not yet in collection as Figuarts…). I am more than happy to have him, and if you can get him, you will as well.
