The first repaint in the series, but really this is much more. Dead End not only has one awesome paint job, but a new head as well. This worked out very well with the Generations line, so I can see why they gave it another go. Does it work with the Prime style? Read on!
There are repaints for the sake of stretching out a mold, and then there are the ones that just make a whole new character. RID Scourge is probably the most prominent that comes to mind, seconded only by the seekers from G1. I will just say now Dead End joins that club.
This is getting to be a bad habit…but yes again the packaging is awesome. I love the box art. I mean Dead End isn’t in the show, so this is as close to him being animated as we are going to see, and I think we are being denied a great character (side note, the could have totally made him as “Make Shift, the Wheeljack impersonator since we only saw him as a silhouette).
I mean look at this guys mug, he is all kinds of evil here…and his weapons? Wheeljack had them katanas, but Dead End? Oh no…
Fricken’ LASER swords people! He does not mess around! Ok ok…lets actually look at this toy though.
Being a repaint of the Wheeljack mode the vehicle is the same, just the paint job is different. These colors look like either a tribal racer is in command or G2 is making a comeback. Best part is though that it works! Neon colors with the black, oh yes. I LOVE the green wheels and the prominent Decepticon symbol. The whole thing has an organic feel to it. Fun fact, in the jungles, the brighter the colors, the deadlier it is! I think there is a connection here.
Adding the swords in the recommended pointing down completes that organic look. He looks like some kind of fanged reptile.
Side by side, they do look like two different figures. The different directions with the paint is just amazing.
In robot mode, this is my favorite part actually, one of Wheeljacks biggest issues becomes Dead End’s strength. The gangly arms. Dead End is like some melee beast, and the arms work so well for him. Plus again the Decepticon Symbol is prominent like a good soldier, where is Wheeljack’s faction symbol?
His body has a totally different psychology than Wheeljacks. I would really like to see them actually duke it out in the show. And for those that thought Wheeljack didn’t have proper light piping…
My favorite picture of the set…
The mold of course lends to some cool poses despite limitations. I will say though if you skipped on Wheeljack, GET THIS GUY!
You need him looming on your shelf, you will be happy, I assure you!
