This is not a drill this is not a- oh wait, it IS a drill!
The first of two Cyberverse playsets, The Energon driller is what the Decepticons use to…well…drill energon. I will say I have been looking forward to this. I will blatantly say I have been pretty lax on reviewing the Prime Cyberverse stuff. Ok, I did review Starscream, but there are a lot more figures out there. They are also all pretty good! I have been holding back because I wanted just about everyone’s counter parts, but with Vehicon hiding out there, can’t quite do that shot. I will tell you all, I have all of them save the DOTM repaints and Bumblebee because I can’t bare to spend money on that guy with his over exposure. Anyway, that rant is done, on with the drill!
The Driller comes in package in his battle mode. With this you have two large cannons on either side with the triangular barrel common to the Vehicon weapons. The rockets are a translucent yellow plastic. All the purple is also translucent. The drill itself is soft rubber so no one gets hurts. The cable? It connects to a battery pack and when you press the big purple button an LED light glows as well as having the drill spin. (Total tangent, but I rolled the drill on the bottom of Mrs. Screamer’s feet…apparently works very well on an over worked wife)
The drill can hold three cyberverse figures, plus I love that there are pegs for their weapons. So you have one driving with two on the flanking cannons. For some reason it reminds me of how a rail shooter game would look from the third person. The handles on the weapons as well as the drivers spot fit firm into the figures’ hands. If the Driller gets jarred, no worries about having the guys fall out.
The LED is for “Energon boosting” and can plug into any of the weapons or as shown, the back peg of the commander figures. To get the full effect I shot down the lights and….
To get to drill mode, slide the red switch, and the weapons fold back in and the treads pull in compact. Alas due to QC issues, the right cannon just doesn’t fit in flush, which does bug me, but I plan to keep in deployed in weapons mode for display, so not a deal breaker. When in drill mode, just roll him and the drill spins. The LED plugs into the drill and when you hit the button…you get that tiny glow again.
The detailing on this guy is awesome though. There are the clips for weapons from the generations line, so if you have the legends figures you can use them. This could be a drone from Trypticon I guess.
Finally it would be a crime not to mention the Cyberverse Knockout. His is great! His face has the smirk, and his weapons are what the deluxe should have gotten. I love the saw, but the spear is rocking. I will focus more on him in a future review.
If you are a fan of the Cyberverse, then I can recommend this with enthusiasm. A spot for multiple figures, and if you have been army building your Vehicons, a great place for them to be displayed. The included figure is great as well. If Cyberverse isn’t your thing, you may want to pass then.
