Ok I admit, not the best pic, but people, one of the funniest. I am happy to have this guy, from the colors to the design. Was so happy, didn’t get him properly transformed, but I assure you, that will play nothing to how I review. So, read on to see more of a ‘con who is not an automobile fan…but an ENTHUSIAST!
Now one of the reasons I am happy to have this guy, is that frankly with the distribution of Prime RID figures, Decepticons are few and far between. Hell any figure that isn’t a yellow sports care is few and far between, but I have been HUNTING for Knockout (not to mention Vehicon is like finding…well I’ll make a comparison as soon as I find one of those guys). My poor wife has been dragged to every action figure section when ever we go out for errands lol.
Knockout comes to us in his car mode, and while not totally show accurate, is one really good looking car. I love the maroon with the red, actually reminds me of the Stunticon Deadend actually. The wheels are black, and frankly I think a little silver thrown on the hubcaps wouldn’t have hurt. I may actually break out the paints and do that later. The spear is his main weapon and is used on the show. I find it a bit bland as well, not to mention…short. It also spits at a small joint for no purpose save to get lost. I would have liked it more if the spear did split, but into two equal halves that could plug to either side.
Just give my some balance blast it! Plus as a Decepticon, shouldn’t he have weapons because he is EVIL! I have him here with Wheel Jack’s swords and they look pretty spiffy.
My other issue is the size. Changing format, below I first have him next to Wheeljack, who while is also a sports car, is much bigger.
He is compact on the underside! Not shellformer, but his robot kibble folds in wonderfully! None of it hinders his rolling at all. Transforming is basically unfolding this guy. I love his feet, they flip forward and rotate down and the back of the car rotates to be the heels. Also his head, while spring loaded, well, doesn’t spring that will because the crest catches.
And we get one sexy bot. Really, while the car mode is cool, this is where he shows off. With the wrists on a ball joint (FINALLY!) they can rotation and more freedom for posing. And well I do love dem legs! Why? Well with the foot transformation having all the ball joints and blocky heels, they allow him to be stable in MANY positions.
I will say his neck is limited even if on the ball joint. Just can’t turn all the way around. Again we see the lack luster weapon but it also can peg into his back. This is best because, frankly his hands suck. They barely hold the spear, and I tried other weapons, even the bass ass axe of doom, and he really can’t hold them which is a pity.
Now man reviews state how there are essentially two ways to have him transformed. There is how the instructions tell you, and how it “should be.” Above is the latter, with the hood propped up and the arms folded in. Now I like both arm configurations. Each has their pros and cons. With the arms folded in, you have better show accuracy, but limited movement. With the arms extended…
You get a much greater range of movement. This coupled with the ball jointed wrists opens up a great amount of posing. Now in my world, I think he has to arm modes, one for power the other for reach.
So either way is the correct way, just depends on what you want to do with the guy. Oh if Hasbro actually does release a Breakdown figure, you so know I am having them posed as DX on my shelf
Knockout is a great toy. You have no reason NOT to have him. Even with the lack of grip, and a cheesy weapon, his pros far far out weigh the cons. Plus well…one doesn’t have many ‘Cons in their Prime collection…ok I’ll stop…really…
