One of the figures I was really looking forward to, Bulkhead was my favorite original from Animated. I really liked how they handled him in Prime as well. Please note, these pictures, save the black back ground ones, were taken before I made the light box.
Now while FE of course has more detail and all (blah blah blah) RID still has a defined sculpt. I really like how the flaps cover his shoulder joints with out restricting the arms. The fold up windows for his “pectorals” add some great dimension, and he doesn’t have any phony windows like Bumblebee or Cliffjumper had. His jaw even can move up and down! Nice touch! Now I wish he had a wrist joint, but that is me being picky, especially after working with Figuarts.
His legs do leave a bit to be desired for action poses, actually they are flat out stubby. The thing is, aside from flexing and pounding stuff, does Bulkhead need more?
Bulkhead is supposed to be the big bruiser, and scale wise with the voyagers in robot form he’s not bad.
But vehicle leaves a bit desired…
He’s not that big! I mean yes he is in scale, but this is a voyager figure, not a deluxe. I mean he was in the pricier box and all…why would he cost more?
Oh right! The Light up weapon!!! Perhaps I have mentioned this before…but this is the most pointless gimmick in a long time. I mean Powerlinking from Energon hurt me, but this one is really the killer. I mean ok it looks ok on ‘bot mode, even if it doesn’t lock down…but how does that look on the truck?
REALLY???? At least with Starscream they attempted to have it be a rocket launcher when folded in…but this is just awful. Thank goodness Bulkhead did also come with the piledriver piece as well. Not really used in the show, but looks good on the robot mode (see first two pictures). Also though, the weapon looks pretty spiffy on the vehicle mode!
For the weapon I have one original solution…
yup…Also the roof mount does allow you to place the weapon on his back…for all that is worth…BUT I am now tempted to give him Starscream’s gun if just to have artillery. That does kind of meet his motif.
All in all I do like this figure. I actually like him better than Prime for the voyager class. His transformation is fun, detailing great. I think he would look good on the shelf.
