So after all my ranting, crying, whining about Prime RID and not finding anything but Bumblebee figures, Hasbro heard my pleas and sent me a Starscream! No…not really…more like my awesome wife saw him hiding behind an Optimus Prime and I snagged him…
…and I like him! Oh he is not perfect, but since I do not have FE, I will be happy for what I have. And seriously, he is not a bad figure!
He is quite possible, with a lot of twist joints to angle his arms. His hips are actually slumped a bit, but this also acts as a counter balance to his top heavy wings. Also while his wings on the ankles are not the prettiest, they do allow more sure footing.
Some GREAT detailing on his face and red eyes. Crest is grey which is not show accurate (red) and it is soft rubber, as are his knees. At least if he falls, they won’t snap off. I really like his chest panels, they give him some great dimension. One odd thing is that his decepticon symbol is sideways on his shoulder.
Transformation is neat and a little complex. Essentially you fold his chest panels up and flip up his shoulder so his arms are now above his head. Tuck in his head and fold his arms inside the pocket formed. Then open up the wings.
After that, flip up his hips, twist his legs and snap together the tail fin.
Oh and fold the nose cone down…ok this picture is wrong, but yeah, that is Starscream in jet mode…
Actually this is…and it is a beefy jet. I know the show and FE are much sleeker, this is the pumped up on energon steroid version. He is armed with his single rocket under each wing (which also clip to his arms). The red is a nice touch for offsetting the grey, but again, not show accurate. Also the tail engine when locked together doesn’t make a perfect circle, but I don’t think I will keep him too much in this mode.
I didn’t bother taking a picture of his “Null Ray” because it is a waste of time, money and plastic. It is just like Prime’s save two slight improvements. One, purple translucent plastic, and two, the back of the gun has molded rocket ports. So when not deployed, it appears slightly functional. Aside from that, it keeps robot mode off balanced and just looks dumb in jet mode.
Now I only have one major complaint about this guy, and it is the same I had with the Cyberverse version…TOO TALL! Kind of hard to imagine him cowering to his leader, when he is the big guy on the shelf.
I can forgive the wings giving him height, but should only be up to Megatron’s shoulder. I wouldn’t have minded him being the size of Soundwave, or having Megatron a head taller.
I think Starscream is worth adding to the collection I like him much more than Megatron and Prime for the 3 figures in that size class.
